Position: Senior Commercial Property Accountant

Reports to: Director of Accounting

Function & Scope:

Our Client is seeking a Senior Commercial Property Accountant to join its corporate team in Dallas, Texas. This position is responsible for managing and maintaining a commercial and multi-family portfolio of assets. Including all aspects of accounting and preparing monthly reporting packages for 15 commercial/retail and residential entities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Produce financial statements on a monthly basis
  • Ensure all transactions and operating activity is properly accounted for in accordance with GAAP
  • Write reports as needed and report on key performance indicators and financial covenants
  • Abstract pertinent lease terms and set-up leases in accounting software
  • Monitor key lease dates such as reporting requirements, expirations, and options
  • Account for percentage rent
  • Complete annual CAM, INS and Tax reconciliations and adjustments annually
  • Manage / prepare routine general ledger accounting and recurring journal entries
  • Verify all cash entries are booked timely and accurately
  • Ensure all expenses have been accrued and are accurately reflected in the monthly reporting
  • Balance and account for inter-company activity between related entities
  • Prepare and record payroll entry
  • Resolve questions and variances with Property Managers on all financial reports for each individual assets
  • Record and reconcile financial information (i.e. security deposits, escrow account activity, loan balances, etc)
  • Maintain accounting for fixed assets and depreciation
  • Manage projects and support Director of Accounting with duties as assigned

Month-end Close
  • Calculate Management Fees
  • Reconcile all significant accounts and resolve reconciling issues
  • Prepare the monthly financial statements, the expense detail along with variance explanations on a monthly basis

  • Prepare and issue form 1099 to vendors and form 1096 to the IRS
  • Complete annual property budgets with Property Managers
  • Prepare annual tax workpapers and coordinate year-end tax preparation with external CPAs


Basic Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor’ s degree in Accounting

Required: Four or more years of related commercial accounting experience

Required: Commercial accounting and Yardi experience

Additional Qualifications:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel skills desired.

Analytical and meticulous in the assessment of operating activity and property details

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and business processes

Program management skills with ability to bring complex projects to closure in a timely manner

Strong written and verbal communications skills, including presentation skills, with ability to quickly and positively influence others

Organized and high attention to detail and accuracy

Use discretion and maintain company confidentiality
